Volunteer
When you volunteer in animal welfare, you join a dedicated group of people who care passionately about the well-being of the animals. Volunteers celebrate success and support each other during difficult moments.
Get Started As a Volunteer
Research different organizations and contact them to determine their specific volunteer needs.
Ask if there are any special requirements to volunteer with the organization (i.e.Minimum age requirements, commitment of hours, orientation or training, etc.).
Have an idea of how you’d like to do to contribute (see volunteer tasks below).
What Do Volunteers Do?
Socialize animals: walking dogs, holding cats, teaching manners, offering comfort and playing, giving treats, etc.
Photography: taking photos to promote the animals for adoption, which is critical for marketing & social networking
Transport: literally saving lives by driving the animal to the safety of a rescue partner, getting a rescue animal to a vet appointment, etc.
Events: taking animals and/or representing the shelter/rescue organization through public outreach.
Improving shelter/rescue facilities: building new play yards, painting and decorating for holidays, planting flowers, etc.
Animal comforts:preparing treats (kongs, treat bars), doing wash for clean blankets and towels
Promotions: help organize promotions that benefit the rescue/shelter (fundraising) or that benefit the animals directly (treat drives, towel/blanket collections, etc.)
